THE BAND

Billed as the group’s “first appearance in the Deep South,” The Band came to Tuscaloosa veterans of the road. Founded in 1967 the group was a mixture of Canadian and American musicians. Their biggest fame came when they acted as Bob Dylan’s backing band on a tour in 1966 as The Hawks, later changing the name to simply The Band. Earlier in the year The Band was featured on the cover of Time Magazine, after The Beatles only the second rock group ever to be featured. By January 1970, the ensemble had released only two albums: “Music From Big Pink,” and their second studio effort known as “The Brown Album.” The release of The Band’s seminal “Stage Fright,” wouldn’t drop until the following summer.
