THE POLICE

Bama Theater

Oct. 14, 1979

The Police infamously played the Bama to fewer than 200 people, just as "Roxanne" was beginning to garner airplay, even though tickets sold for just $5. Ironically, there were a few significant Alabama connections to the band. Drummer Stewart Copeland’s older brother Miles, a 1966 graduate of Birmingham Southern University, was the fledgling pop punk band’s manager. The Copeland brothers’ father, Miles Copeland Jr., was a Birmingham native, an ardent jazz musician, CIA agent, and author.
