UNIVERSITY PROGRAM COUNCIL
TIM WEISBERG
November 12, 1976
Bama Theater
As one of a series of four acts the UPC booked at the Bama Theater in downtown Tuscaloosa that semester, Tim Weisberg was cut from a different cloth. His greatest acclaim came in 1977 when he released Twin Sons of Different with established folk artist Dan Fogelberg, followed by the Best of Tim Weisberg the following year. For his concert in Tuscaloosa, Weisberg was performing material from Listen to the City, which had been released the following year. He brought a small but tight band on tour. Weisberg was causal, appearing in jeans and a shirt, chatting comfortably with the audience between songs. The concert was much different from the other UPC shows booked that school year which included the Commodores, Chicago, and The Grateful Dead at Memorial Coliseum, plus Ry Cooder, Robert Palmer, and Leon Redbone also at the Bama. For concertgoers, Weisberg was a breath of fresh air with a smooth jazz artist who was at the beginning of his ascension to pop crossover success.
